Last February I attended the Supercross in Atlanta. When I went there I was still working on StepUp2. As I looked at the track I tried to imagine building it with StepUp2. I realized that I only needed 2 more pieces and I would be able to do it. The two pieces were the sloped whoops and the transition saddle from the big jump to the monster jump (used on the big triple). Those were the last two pieces added to StepUp2. I then used StepUp2 to make a track similar to Atlanta.

I wasn't quite satisfied with it but it was the best I could do. Over time I started work on an add-on to StepUp2 (StepUp2SX) that would replace some of the level 3 and 4 pieces with more pieces for making 2 level SX tracks. I created a saddle that transitions from the Monster jump to a new taller Ultra jump. This made a better triple that was more similar to the one at Atlanta. I converted the Atlanta track to the StepUp2SX plugin.

Around this time KrackerJack1 had make KrackerJack Acres and the large format national was born. I added this feature to ASCEdit and the Atlanta track seemed perfect to convert to a larger national. Using 3.75 instead of 3.0 makes everything 25% bigger. This seemed just about perfect for this track.

I kept playing with the converted Atlanta track while I was working on other tracks. I had really never intended to release this track. I originally hadn't released my SX track either. But after seeing people release tracks over the months based on the various SX tracks of the Pace SX series I decided that I should go ahead and release my rendition of the Atlanta track.

It was about that point that Stephen Cameron (Kamshaft) from Cameron Graphics offered to do a texture for me. I immediately thought of the Atlanta track and I sent him the disp map for Atlanta. I would really like to thank Kam for taking time out of his busy schedule to create the textures for this track. That is one thing that I have really enjoyed about MCM. We have quite a community here with plenty of people helping others. I have met plenty of people from all over the world that I would never have met if it wasn't for MCM.

The Track

Atlanta SX

This track is going to require brakes. Timing and speed control are very important to a fast lap. There are many places where you will be punished for over or underjumping. The right timing will get you a fast lap.

It was impossible to put the start line where the real start line was and keep the finish line where it is. I decided to put the start/finish line where the real finish line was. You are only on the starting line once per race but you cross the finish line every lap. I wish MCM would let you specify where the start line is. It would have been very easy for Rainbow to do it. If they ever want to know how they should just e-mail me.

Atlanta SX Main

Atlanta SX after mainy laps. This track has ruts all over it. To go fast on this track requires the same thing as the Atlanta SX track, with the addition of the necessity of finding the right line. The lines are there to go almost as fast, if not as fast, as Atlanta SX. It's just a lot harder to be consistent.

This track was actually created before Baatk's Arenacross. I did the ruts on that version based on my experience doing it with this track.


Installation instructions:

Copy the contents of this zip to your MCM\teraform\national folder. Where MCM is the drive and directory that your MCM.EXE is located in.
